Report on 2009 School Sessions
The 2009 inter schools competition was contested between St Michaels Primary School and Ormskirk C of E Primary School at the Windmill. With 8 players on each team each player had a game of singles followed by a game of pairs. St Michaels, pictured below, came out as the eventual winners and were presented with their trophy by the Chairman of the Junior Bowling Initiative.

This was a very successful second year for the Junior Bowling Initiative. St Michaels were once again the most active school and Mr Hughes can take a great deal of credit for organising the sessions with the Cockceck Bowling Club. Altogether 8 sessions were held with 121 pupils coached.
Mount Carmel had 5 sessions at the Dog and Gun green with 43 pupils coached, with Ormskirk C of E having three sessions at the Windmill and had 31 pupils coached. Finally Ormskirk School had one session with 8 pupils. Altogether 203 pupils were coached.
Just some of the comments from teachers are set out below:
"Great Crown Green and students really enjoyed themselves, they all say thank you!" Ormskirk School
"Another enjoyable learning experience. This group, who have been several times before, showed real improvement. The smaller groups worked very well. Thank you." Mount Carmel
"All enjoyed. Children well behaved. Well organised and instructions made very clear" St Michaels
"Organisation was excellent. Instructions were given clearly and concisely. Staff were very friendly and approachable. Children really enjoyed themselves" St Michaels.
Thanks must go to all the volunteers who came along to assist with sessions - Dave Benson, Barry Cheetham, Paul Birch, Ray Freeman, Brian McVann, Dave Pennington, and E. Green.
Finally, and in no way least, thanks to the instructors - Jack McLean, John Croft, Chris Ellis and Ray Hampson who organised and coached the sessions
